Done... almost! - 08-16-06 21:15 - jeff
Referee Assistant--Professional Edition is done, well, almost done anyway! Here's where I'm at... I've now completed the work of adding in all of the features to make it suitable for live assigning. I have taken the public beta off of the website, as I am now working with a small group of people that will be using the program as their primary method for assigning referees. As for a release date, depending on how things go, it will likely be late fall, end of the year at the latest. Until I really get some people testing it out and putting it through the paces, I can't say for sure exactly when it will be released. In addition to the desktop database, I have nearly completed a feature called Referee Assistant Web Services. Web Services allow the assignor to post the games in the database to the web. From the website, referees can log in with a user name and password, change their address/phone number/e-mail address, enter their availability, and accept/decline games. Information entered on the web is downloaded into the Referee Assistant desktop database, and used for assigning referees.
Significant changes to RefAsst planned - 04-13-05 12:33 - jeff
In the next couple of months, I plan to publicly announce several significant changes to Referee Assistant. * RefAsst 2000 & RefAsst 2002/2003 will be consolidated to one version that works with Access versions 2000, 2002 & 2003. This consolidated version will be called Referee Assistant--Standard Edition. * A "real" installation procedure, no more extracting zip files into a folder. * The runtime edition with the new installation procedure will be "seamless"... if you have Access, Referee Assistant is installed without the runtime files. If you don't have Access, the installer will install the runtime files. As a result, I will probably be dropping the words "for Microsoft Access" when referring to the title of the program, since Access will truly not be "required".
Build 125... e-mail assignments! - 04-13-05 12:24 - jeff
Build 125 has been released today... there is a preliminary version which allows for the assignor to e-mail assignments to referees. I am very excited about this... this is probably the "most requested" feature of the Standard edition. If you have downloaded before, note that there are now two files in the .zip file... the database file, plus a .DLL file. Put them both in the same folder. The demo does not explain this, but the Beta will NEVER e-mail assignments to the e-mail addresses posted for your referees. If you say "e-mail all assignments", all of the e-mails will go to the assignor e-mail address you specify. So, if you have 35 referes that have been assigned games, this e-mail address will get 35 e-mails.
Build 120 released - 03-01-05 11:20 - jeff
Build 120 has been released on the website... it represent a significant amount of work on the Import from RA 1.6 feature, which allows you to import old GameData files into RefAsst Pro. I am looking for feedback on how well this part of the program works. This process requires the registered version of Referee Assistant-Standard, and a GameData file. This process should drop your old information into RefAsstPro without errors, or if you get errors, they should be understandable.
